Description:
Purple Mat is a low, spreading annual wildflower that forms soft, rounded mats close to the ground. Covered in tiny hairs, its leaves are small and oval, and its bright pink to purple trumpet-shaped flowers bloom in dense clusters. It often appears in abundance after winter rains, carpeting the desert floor with color.
Uses:
Primarily admired for its role in the desert wildflower bloom. It supports early-season pollinators like native bees and small insects. Not widely used for food or medicine but plays an important ecological role in desert landscapes.
Note:
Despite its size, Purple Mat can steal the show during wildflower season. Its low growth and bold color make it one of the first flowers to catch your eye on a springtime desert walk.
