TRIASSIC -

The Triassic Period is the first period of the Mesozoic Era, lasting from about 247 to 212 million years ago. It followed the mass extinction event at the end of the Permian Period, which wiped out most life on Earth. The Triassic was a time of recovery and new beginnings, as many new species began to appear, including the earliest dinosaurs and mammals. The continents were still joined together in a single supercontinent called Pangaea, and the climate was generally hot and dry. Early reptiles, amphibians, and marine life like ammonites flourished. Towards the end of the Triassic, another extinction event occurred, clearing the way for dinosaurs to dominate in the Jurassic Period. The Triassic is a key period in Earth’s history because it marks the start of many important evolutionary developments.
