GRANITE - A coarse-grained igneous rock consisting mostly of the minerals quartz and feldspar. Granite is a type of coarse-grained, intrusive igneous rock that forms from the slow cooling and solidification of magma deep within the Earth's crust. It's primarily made up of three minerals: Quartz: Clear or gray crystals that give granite its hard, durable nature. Feldspar: Typically white, pink, or gray, feldspar is the most abundant mineral in granite. Mica: Thin, flaky minerals, usually black (biotite) or silvery (muscovite), that add shimmer to the rock. Granite is known for its durability and resistance to weathering, making it a popular choice for construction, monuments, and countertops. It's commonly found in mountain ranges and continental crust, often exposed through erosion or quarrying. |
